Your Password
Your Password

Your password is the key to your account, and anyone who knows it has complete access to all of your files.

So it is very important that you choose a password that is hard to guess and that you keep this password a secret.

Under absolutely no circumstances should it ever become necessary for you to tell anyone your password. No one, including the system administrators, will ever have a legitimate reason to ask for your password. Therefore, if someone does ask for your password, you should never give it to them and you should report anyone trying to get this information to the admin team.

If someone wants to break into your account then the usual way to find passwords is by guessing them. So you have to make sure you do not use easy-to-guess passwords.

Then passwords that should not be used are.:
  • your name, username, your name in reverse, nickname, your girlfriend's/boyfriend's name! etc.
  • All dictionary words and similar ('happy', 'happiness', 'happily', etc.)
  • all words from a foreign language (it is just as easy to get foreign dictionaries as english ones!)
  • patterns like '12345', 'qwerty', 'yourname123'.
  • place names or first names!
  • encyclopedia words ('Pulitzer')
All of these "passwords" can be found easily in lists online or from just knowing a little bit about you!
