The current committee are in the process of filling in the history of the society by talking to former members, so far we can deduce that the society was formed way back in 1977.

The email below, from Colin Lafferty, Vice-Auditor 1977-1978, describes what life was like for the early CompSoc pioneers!

- Yes, it was a Computer Society, we may well have been part of the
   formative grouping of the society.
- The big thing I remember was the terminal room in the Physics Dept. with
   VT50s and VT52s in it. That was the main meeting place/mission control.
- I can remember giving a talk/lecture on BASIC.
- I remember the other members well; Christopher Scanlon, Kevin Connolly,
   John Smiith, and Felim O'Neill. John works in Galway I think.
