When in 2004 it became apparent that student was no longer up to the task of dealing with its work load, Compsoc set about arranging its replacement. Brockman is that replacement. Student has been retired from frontline service but its name lives on in the form of a CNAME for brockman.

Named in honour of the image conscious anchor man of Simpsons fame, Kent Brockman, brockman is a sleek and shiny Apple Xserve G5. Powered by a pair of 2GHz PPC970FX processors and 2Gb of RAM, brockman is able to deal with every challenge thrown at it. Thankfully, this Brockman doesn't easily yield to forces of giant alien ants and instead is happily running GNU/Linux (Debian PowerPC with a PPC64 kernel).
Brockman provides all the web, mail and file storage required by NUI, Galway's Clubs and Societies along with many other useful services. It also hosts many Student Services associated facilities and websites. Compsoc also plan to use brockman as a video streaming server for events.
